This weekend, more than 50,000 excited Chileans gathered in the city of La Reina to witness the first ever Red Bull Soapbox Race in Chile.

70 teams competed in one of the steepest streets of the city.

The soapboxes reached speeds of up 40 miles per hour, but despite their best efforts, not every team reached the finish line.

The winners on the day where “Llegó el Lechero”, who raced to victory in an upside down cow. As part of their prize, the whole team will travel to the finish line of the Rally Dakar 2012 in Lima and be part of the Red Bull after-party.

The judges, comprised of Red Bull athlete and Chilean national hero Chaleco López, Catalina Pulido, Vanessa Ceruti (aka Miss Chile 2011) and Álvaro Gómez, were faced with the tough decisions on the day. “It was really difficult to choose the winner because all the teams put a lot of effort and the soapboxes where very well constructed, however, this was the best team [Llegó el Lechero ]and they deserve the prize”, commented López.

“We are very happy and excited with the first prize,” said winning team pilot Martín Rioja after taking part. “We made a lot of efforts in this race and worked very hard to build our soapbox so we are thrilled.”
