FC Red Bull Salzburg have completed the signing of Brazilian striker Alan Douglas Borges de Carvalho from Fluminese for an undisclosed fee.
The 21-year-old, known simply as Alan, has signed a four-year deal with the Austrian champions and increases the Red Bulls striking options following the departure of Marc Janko to FC Twente.
“He is an adaptable attacking player who can perform well in several positions," Red Bulls sporting director Dietmar Beiersdorfer (pictured above left with Alan and coach Huub Stevens) said.
"This summer we've allowed Marc Janko and Alexander Zickler to leave, while Robin Nelisse is injured, so we wanted to be active in the transfer market to bolster the squad."
The Brazil Under-20 international leaves Fluminese as their joint top goalscorer, having found the net four times in 10 games in the current Brazilian season and becomes the first player eligible for the Brazil national team ever to play for the Red Bulls.
He is the second front man to sign for the Red Bulls in quick succession, following the arrival of Uruguayan Joaquin Boghossian and coach Huub Stevens is hoping that Alan can slot straight into the side.
“I assume he is ready for action, but we need to see how long it takes him to adapt to the team,” Stevens said.
And the player revealed that he has been impressed straight away by the Red Bulls set up.
“The working conditions here are superb," Alan said. "I want to play in the UEFA Champions League with Salzburg. Every Brazilian dreams of playing in the best competitions."
FC Red Bull Salzburg face Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC in the UEFA Champions League play-offs with the first leg in Austria on August 18.
