Moto2 rider Scott Redding took his second successive front row position for the Marc VDS Racing Team ahead of Sunday's Sanmarinese Grand Prix.

Having finished on the podium from third in Indianapolis last week, the Brit will be hoping for a similar result this weekend.

Redding was edged out by Championship leader Toni Elías, who secured his second pole position of 2010 on Saturday, as he looks for a sixth win of the season at Misano.

The Spaniard’s best time of 1’38.991s beat youngster Redding to the pole by just 0.044s.

It was another close-run race to qualify in the 125cc class. Championship leader Marc Márquez, of Red Bull Ajo Motorsport, had led until the dying moments of the session only to be beaten to top spot by Bradley Smith.

A strong final lap from Bancaja Aspar rider Smith secured him his second 125cc pole of the season by just 0.158s.

“I think that starting from the front row is good," said Márquez. "At the end, we didn’t want to risk it too much so as not to fall. We have a good set-up, although perhaps I felt a bit more comfortable in this morning’s free practice."
