Rock the vote

After a sudden death play-off at the sold-out Luxor Live Arnhem, Netherlands, New Cool Collective were voted winners of the Red Bull Soundclash on April 2. The lads from Nobody Beats the Drum showed their teeth, but eventually had to bite the dust.

Talented bands excel themselves in a gruelling contest at the Red Bull Soundclash. This time in Arnhem, Netherlands, the old dogs of New Cool Collective proved too strong and creative for the young puppies of Nobody Beats the Drum. New Cool Collective’s secret weapon came in the shape of Rotterdam’s self-proclaimed Night Mayor, Jules Deelder. Nobody Beats the Drum’s special guest was GEM’s Maurits Westerik.

There was no lack of creativity on both sides of the battle field. New Cool Collective had dressed in military uniform for the occasion. Nobody Beats The Drum had a sampler bearing their opponents’ heads and tried to rile them with provoking visuals. But it wasn’t enough to stave off New Cool Collective’s victory. At a stalemate of 3-3 the audience voted New Cool Collective the evening’s champions, by a whisker, according to host Frank Evenblij.
