Ken Roczen recovered well from a slip during his qualification heat to claim third position in the gate for the Grand Prix of Lombardia at Mantova, Italy.
Roczen posted reasonably quick times during practice to find himself in the top–10. Despite making a sluggish start to the heat, the German pushed hard to close on the top three before he lost his front wheel in a 180 degree turn and fell off his bike.
The 15-year-old wasn’t done there though and displayed some inventive lines after remounting to pass Jeremy Van Horebeek and Steven Frossard to clinch a well-earned third place.
“My start was really bad in the Heat race and I tried to catch the guys,” Roczen said.
“I made a mistake and had a crash but got up quickly. I found some useful lines that won me some time. It is pretty hard to pass out there but if you have a good eye you can always find something.
“I am looking forward to tomorrow."
