Her home fans may have been disappointed by her 17th place finish in Berlin, but Sabrina Mockenhaupt said she was more than happy with her performance.
Having won the Berlin half-marathon in April, there were high hopes for the German long distance runner at the IAAF World Championships. But Mockenhaupt got off to a poor start and got left behind by the leading group as she struggled in the high temperatures.
She rallied, and by running her own race, had sufficient reserves of energy to come back strongly in the latter stages and pass a number of.
“Some people might criticise my tactics, but I think I took the right approach in the circumstances. In the second half I was able to pass several world class runners, much to my delight and that of the home fans who have supported me so faithfully.”
