Join poet, MC, actor, anarchist and entertainer Saul Williams for a Fireside Chat with Red Bull Music Academy Radio...
Saul Williams was born in Newburgh, New York, and spent his youth performing on the stage and reading Shakespeare in his spare time. He studied acting to degree level in Georgia, and post-graduate back in New York. It was during his time in acting school that he became involved in New York City's burgeoning slam-poetry scene.
His exceptional talent for improvised rhyme culminated in him becoming the Grand Slam Champion of the renowned Nuyorican Poets Café - an event witnessed by the documentary-maker Paul Devlin, who subsequently made a film about the scene called 'SlamNation'.
The success of the documentary led him to star in the acclaimed feature film 'Slam', which spread Saul's name internationally.
All the while Saul was making music full-time, touring with Nine Inch Nails and recording with Trent Reznor, amongst others.
If there is anyone to command a room to silence in a sentence, it's Saul Williams...
