Red Bull driver Mattias Ekström says he is delighted Audi stablemate Timo Scheider has won back-to-back DTM titles. The German retained his crown after finishing second in the season finale at Hockenheim.
The race itself was won by Britain’s Gary Paffett while Red Bull duo Ekström and Martin Tomczyk were both unclassified in the race itself and finished fifth and sixth respectively in the final standings.
Ekström, who was leading at the Nürburgring until a cooling problem forced him out of the race, reflected: "Unfortunately, I had a hole in the radiator as a result of the duels on the first lap.
"There were a few incidents of minor body contact with Gary (Paffett) and at some point I had to drive across the grass. It’s really too bad not to be able to finish. But I’m happy that the race went so well for Timo (Scheider)."
Scheider finished the campaign five points clear of runner-up Paffett in the standings. His triumph saw Audi make history, becoming the first brand in the 25-year history of the sport to lift the crown three years in a row.

The 30-year-old German was delighted to have retained the title in front of his home supporters, telling reporters: "I’m incredibly happy that we did it again – and once more in front of a spectacular turnout on my home ground.
"I’m 100 per cent happy with my team and my Audi A4. That was the key to success throughout the season."
