The new talent of the Italian snowboarding scene was awarded in Bardonecchia at the Red Bull Kratters Kamp: Giacomo and Filippo Kratter chose Filiberto Piller Cottrer.
The second edition of the Red Bull Kratters Kamp, the most desired event for hopeful riders, took place from February 20 to 22 in Bardonecchia, Italy. All the participants made impressive progress in this three-day camp, thanks to the support of great instructors, and Giacomo and Filippo Kratter giving precious advice on improving technique and style.
The nationally-selected participants proved to be real talents, demonstrating excitement combined with a strong desire to take it up a few notches and recognizing the opportunity they were given to improve. Candidates spent hours in the park training until they almost dropped. The day’s events were filmed and projected in the evenings, allowing the rookies to scan the images and comment on the action of the day. The analysis proved to be as important as the practice.
But the most important experience for the participants was the chance to compete with same-level riders, to motivate one another and benefit from the feedback of the experts on technique, style and performance. Giacomo and Filippo’s advice to the youngsters: “Don’t always ride in the same place. In snowboarding, as in most other disciplines, riding with as much variation as possible and trying different spots is fundamental if you want to step up.” Other ideas shared with the riders were to “Create a crew and ride with your friends to increase motivation and sane competition in order to always do your best.” Learning from expert riders is as crucial as an enthusiastic but humble approach. “Don’t be shy in asking for suggestions from expert snowboarders,” says Filippo. “Especially if you have to face a new run or a new trick.”
Crowned “best rookie” was the one who put everything into practice and distinguished himself from the rest, both in riding and progress at the Red Bull Kratters Kamp: 15 year-old Filiberto Piller Cottrer from Sappada. His prize was a one-year sponsorship in materials from Oakley. Filiberto will be provided with the best equipment to perform in perfect conditions. And, as every respected rider, he will do a photo and video shoot for Snowboard Mag.
