First place for Kilian Fischhuber in the Boulder World Cup, followed by David Lama, the winner of the overall World Cup: In the absence of injured two-time World Champion Angela Eiter both Austrians continued with their success run of recent years in 2008. At the beginning of preparation for the season, Kilian and David talked about compliments, dreams and 2009.

Apart from the results, my personal highlight last year was …

David: ... in the first instance the expedition to Cochamó in Chile. But my first climb at the Sagwand [rock face in the Zillertal Alps], which is 3000m (approx. 9850 ft) high was also an amazing experience.

Kilian: ... the journey to Réunion. A World Cup contest was held there and we used the time afterwards to explore the island. After the competition – and the party – we lay on the beach, went snorkeling at the reef and did cool canyoning tours.

The nicest compliment I’ve ever received from a fan was …

David: ... that I’ve done everything right in my life because I’m one of the few people who can live their dreams.

Kilian: ‘You’re so beautiful’. [Laughs].

I love to dream of …

David: ... the huge faces that are still waiting for me.

Kilian: ... a time without wars and shortages of oil. No, just kidding ... of my girlfriend, of course.

The three most important things in my life are ...

David: ... Climbing, climbing and – er – climbing.

Kilian: ... my family, friends – and my Sunday breakfast egg.

2009 is definitely going to be a fantastic year for me because …

David: ... I was sick for a month at the end of 2008 and am now more motivated than ever.

Kilian: ... of the climbing World Championships in China, which is a particular highlight for me, and also because I want to realize other cool projects, like a bouldering trip to South Africa in summer.

In ten years’ time I’ll …

David: ... definitely still be climbing – though many things can change in ten years, of course.

Kilian: be 35 – and maybe have my degree.

The craziest thing I’ve ever done is …

David: ... pee down from a rock face 600 meters high – it gives you a sneaky boost [laughs].

Kilian: That’s another story ...
