Looking back on the Chinese Grand Prix, our ambassador, TV commentator and – for this race at least – third driver David Coulthard considers what might have been…
Reflecting on what was the Chinese Grand Prix, another fantastic qualifying performance for the Red Bull Racing team, Sebastian narrowly pipping Mark, unfortunately the rain came race day and they weren’t able to convert it into a one-two finish as we saw here last year. It’s a bit of a lottery in those conditions and the winner in this weekend was McLaren, and on reflection it will be seen as an opportunity missed for the team.
On the positive side, everyone as obviously been talking about the volcano that has erupted in Iceland; when I say on the positive side, what it did mean was that my co-commentator Eddie Jordan couldn’t make it out here, so I was free-styling on the BBC with Jake Humphrey. It was also nice as I was back as third driver, so to be back in the drivers’ briefing and the Grand Prix Drivers Association meeting and things like that, it just gives you a feel and an insight to what the mood between the drivers is. There was talk about the weaving of Lewis Hamilton in the last race in Malaysia.
As we go ahead towards the Spanish Grand Prix, Red Bull Racing have got some more updates, and they have to be feeling confident that they turn the performance around there. Pole position of course is what they’re aiming for again and hopefully this time a one-two finish.
