Since Lilou won the Red Bull BC One in 2005, we've been waiting for him to return the winner's belt to give to the next champion. It hasn't been forthcoming, but this year a solution has been found.
Do you all remember the glorious belt that Lilou received as a trophy when he won the Red Bull BC One in Berlin in 2005? Well, there's a story behind it. When Lilou received it, the belt was supposed to stay with him for a year and then be handed on to the next champion.
But when Red Bull contacted Lilou about bringing the belt to the event in 2006, we had to understand that it wouldn’t quite be as simple as that. Yes, B-Boys are stubborn!
Everyone who saw 'Turn It Loose,' the official Red Bull BC One documentary, remembers the scene when Lilou was asked about the belt and he replied: “First I said it was in Algeria, in my village, far away – that may be true, but maybe not. Then I said it was in France – that may be true or maybe not!” He flashes his mischievous smile, but then says with a serious tone: “If I give back the belt, what would I have left?”
Well Lilou, you managed to keep the belt and, hey, you deserved it! But this year – drum roll – there will be a magnificent new belt for the Red Bull BC One champion. Rumour has it that it will look spectacular!
