KRS-One is one of the most prolific voices of hip-hop. 'The Teacha' is also going to be the host of the Red Bull BC One in New York this November.
'KRS-One' stands for Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone. During his career as a hip-hop artist, Brooklyn-born Lawrence Krisna Parker has become one of the most important figures in rap, and his voice the signature for the rough, in your face, east coast sound.
He started in the streets, founding his label and production crew Boogie Down Productions in 1982 with social street worker Scott Sterling, aka DJ Scott LaRock, and he experienced the brutal side of gun culture when LaRock was shot and killed in 1987.
Using his voice for social issues and founding the Stop the Violence Movement after his best friend's death earned him a reputation as a rapper with a conscience, and the name 'The Teacha'. He never ceased to spark controversy with his statements.
KRS-One – 'Sound Of Da Police'
Musicallly, Sound of Da Police is his most well-known of these statements, while he also entered the billboard charts with the DJ Premiere-produced Step Into My World, with a sample from Blondie.
KRS-One is still strongly rooted in hip-hop culture and all of its elements, and he will bring the music and the b-boys together in the circle at the Red Bull BC One on November 18 at the Hammerstein Ballroom.
