They might be stationed separately in northern and southern Europe, thousands of miles from each other, but the collective consciousness of Tiger & Woods can be found levitating somewhere in deep space. The mysterious duo's deep, cosmic fusion of boogie, house and compressed funk, released on the Editainment imprint, has had tongues wagging for a while now so we recorded their live show at Sónar 2011.
It would seem that all the mystery surrounding the duo is about to evaporate. The extended disco versions that Larry Tiger and David Woods have been carefully fine tuning, remixing, over-dubbing, slicing and dicing have caused no end of intrigue in them. It's no surprise either - the endless rain of edits are a cut above the rest. Theirs is a sound that looks to the future, while also digging in the past, as they fuse together both recognizable and exotic sources and supplement with original production.
Here's how they met: one day in a dusty basement, where they were digging for records, these two gentlemen nearly got into a fight over a boogie vinyl so rare even the disco detectives hadn't discovered it yet. Actually, they still haven't. The record is without a name and is identified only by a test-pressing sticker credited to the NYC disco legend Walter 'Hot Trix' Scott. When the 72-year-old owner of the basement record shop placed the 12-inch on his turntable, Tiger and Woods turned their heads, smacking their lips with desire for this precious relic. Both rushed to the booth, waving their hard-earned cash.
After some chestbeating, Larry and David decided to buy the thing together since the shop owner had raised the price sky-high and took it to Tiger's studio. Sadly, their work that day never saw the light after a hard-drive crash. But they kept on working together and they timidly presented their early work to a mutual friend - also an avid record collector - who gasped: 'This is what DJ Sneak should sound like today!'
