Vettel’s Diary, Sunday: Looking On The Bright Side

Vettel Diary Spain.jpg

Sebastian had an eventful race – and his third place was hard fought, but he was blighted by a degree of bad luck. Here’s how he saw events unfold at the Spanish Grand Prix...

"Looking back I’m pleased with the 15 points I came away from Spain with – after all the incidents I was lucky to get on the podium.

My problems started with the pit stop – I had to stay in the box as Alonso and Button had just entered the pit lane. In these situations you njust have to stay calm and wait – there’s no pint in risking a collision. And then – as if that wasn’t enough) my brakes stopped working properly. Being in third I didn’t think anything else could go badly for me – until I ended up in the gravel trap.

I had to make another pit stop, but we couldn’t fix the problem. But I wasn’t going to give up, I just wanted to score as many points as possible. I had to go easy on my brakes during the turns and slowed the car using the engine and gears on the long straight.

Luckily the gap behind me was big enough for me to reach third place and get the car home. So looking back there are positives and we should always celebrate a podium."
