US downhill coach Alex Hoedlmoser believes skiing world champion Lindsey Vonn is fitter than ever ahead of this weekend’s FIS World Cup giant slalom and slalom races in Aspen.
In addition to going for gold at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver in February, Vonn is bidding to seal a hat-trick of World Cup titles, a feat last achieved by Austria's Petra Kronberger in 1992.
'Physically she's fitter than ever before' - Alex Hoedlmoser
And Hoedlmoser believes the 25-year-old alpine queen has worked hard to ensure that she remains ahead of her rivals, telling reporters: "If you do the same thing you did last year, somebody is going to catch you.
"You've got to turn it up a notch and do even more. Everybody who got beat, they're going to work their (rear) off to get where she was, so she needs to be a step ahead again. Physically she's fitter than ever before. She's been doing a great, great job there."
Despite her bid to strike Olympic gold dominating the headlines during the close season, Vonn is insisting that she is fully focused on the regular season, starting with this weekend’s Aspen women’s World Cup races.
She said: "When I get on the World Cup tour, I'm kind of disconnected from the world. I just kind of get wrapped up in my world and wrapped up in trying to ski fast every day, and I forget about everything else.”
