On February 14 Shaun White successfully made it through the dress rehearsal for the Olympic Games 2010 in Vancouver, Canada. In the halfpipe from Cypress Mountain the title defender was in a class of his own once again.
It seems that the same story repeats itself every time Shaun White goes to a snowboard contest. He qualifies first, wins the contest with his first run then takes it easy for the second one, which has become a victory lap. Shaun White's visit to Canada was no different, the same pattern unfolded at Cypress Mountain a year ahead of the 2010 Olympic Games. A star-studded field of international athletes gathered at the West Vancouver resort to take part in Canada's first halfpipe World Cup of the current season. Guys like Scotty Lago, Steve Fisher, Brad Martin, Iouri Podladtchikov, Martin Cernik, Rhyo Aonno and Louie Vito were there to participate in this Olympic rehearsal hoping to get a hang of the conditions and a few more FIS points.
Shaun White was the crowd favourite, the main media attraction and the most consistent rider out there. His amplitude, technical manoeuvres and overall impression were in a class of their own. After everything was said and done, the 22-year-old American won the contest without searching too deep in his bag of tricks. Coming in second was Rhyo Aonno from Japan; Iouri Podladtchikov (SUI) finished third.
