Venezuelan BMX star Daniel Dhers is on fire headed into X Games 16, kicking off his summer on a roll. He’s logged three consecutive second-place finishes in BMX Park events so far this month.
Danny began his hot streak with the Nike 6.0 BCN BMX Pro in Barcelona, Spain over the July 4th weekend. Unfortunately, the Finals were rained out, but Dhers had put in a 2nd-place performance in Qualifying, which were ultimately used for final results.
Then it was off to Cologne, Germany for the BMX Masters, where he once again battled with the best BMX talent from around the world. He qualified in first but was barely edged out in the final by 15-year-old upstart Brett Banasiewicz.
That didn’t deter him the following weekend in Chicago, Illinois, where Dhers showed up for the 2010 season opener of the Dew Tour. Dhers holds three overall Park titles from the Dew Tour (’06-’08), so he knows a thing or two about being consistent over the course of the season. He dropped no-handed, tire grab and can-can 720s, along with a killer alley-oop 720 over the spine. He picked up his third consecutive 2nd place finish in the windy city, then hopped on a plane bound for the X Games in Los Angeles.
He’s spent the last week getting used to the one-of-a-kind concrete Park course at X Games 16, prepping for the Elimination round which takes place today at 19:30 CEST, Dhers already has three X Games Park medals in his trophy case: bronze from ’06 and back-to-back golds in ‘07/’08.
