Keeping you in the loop about key things of interest and to alert you to the presence of some literally quite good – and more importantly free and legal – bits and bobs floating around...

THE KNIFE delighted and terrified last year with her Fever Ray project. Karin Dreijer Andersson has now returned to her day job with her brother Olof, and, in collaboration with Planningtorock and Mt. Sims, has been working on Tomorrow, In A Year – an opera about Charles Darwin. The double album is released on March 1, but you can grab the track Colouring Of Pigeons free in exchange for your e-mail at www.theknife.net

VAMPIRE WEEKEND scored their first number one album this week, as their second set Contra went in at the top in the Billboard charts. Unfortunately, it wasn't the case over in the UK, where it put up a good fight against Florence & The Machine’s six-month-old Lungs effort. The band have just been linked to a Glastonbury slot too. www.vampireweekend.com

Ahead of her next album, M.I.A. has released a brand new track on her Twitter feed. The tune, There's Space For Ol Dat I See, crept out sinisterly last week, but further findings show it to be the first fruit of third album Space Odyssey, which is due for release in the summer. Her official site is about to be done up, so for the moment follow her on www.twitvid.com/videos/_m_i_a_
