Soul survivor Bobby Womack talks about his astonishing 60 years making magnificent music - and he picks out some key tracks for Red Bull Music Academy Radio...

In this week's Music Matters, we're talking to the original soul poet himself, Mr. Bobby Womack!

Bobby first came to prominence in the 1950s as part of The Womack Brothers. The band later changed their name to The Valentinos and scored hits such as ‘It’s All Over Now’ (as covered by The Rolling Stones for their first ever No. 1 hit), while Womack played as a session guitarist on soul classics like Aretha Franklin’s Chain Of Fools, and legendary albums such as Sly & the Family Stone’s There’s A Riot Goin’ On.

Womack’s solo career evolved with hits such as Woman’s Gotta Have It, Lookin’ For A Love, and the title theme for the film Across 110th Street, peaking with early 80s albums The Poet and The Poet II, and more hits like If You Think You’re Lonely Now.

One of soul music's all-time greatest artists, Bobby’s amazing mission took a new step in 2010 with a star performance on Gorillaz’ Stylo alongside Mos Def.

Listen to a Fireside Chat between Red Bull Music Academy Radio and the man who is not just a poet but also a true soul survivor!
