Chas Guldemond (USA) and Jamie Anderson (USA) both walked away $10,000 richer for their performances on a challenging slopestyle course in the fourth annual 2012 Burton Canadian Open last weekend.
The competition, presented by MINI (CANO), was the second stop on the prestigious Burton Global Open Series and also a 5Star event on the TTR World Snowboard Tour.

Blessed with beautiful skies all week, the event’s finale was held at Canada's Olympic Park in Calgary, Alberta. Under sunny cloudless skies 16 men and 8 women demonstrated the dramatic progression of slopestyle riding in this new Olympic snowboarding discipline.
Chas Guldemond killed it in his second run with a Frontside Lipslide, Backside 180 to 360 Out, Half Cab 180 Backside 180, Switch Backside 900, Backside Double Cork 1080, Backside Rodeo 900 and a Cab 270 Backside Lipslide to Frontside Boardslide.
“This is a complete turnaround from last year. I felt really good and was really stoked on the event,” said Chas who beat fellow American Justin Morgan to top spot. “The weather was great and is the best I’ve ever experienced at a contest."
In the women’s competition, Jamie Anderson came back to win CANO for a second time with a solid run that included Boardslide, Tailslide 270 Out, Tailslide to Fakie, Switch Frontside 540, Backside 540, Swtich Backside 540 and Tail Grab to Backside 50-50 Backside 180 Out.
“It feels great to be back in Calgary this year. The weather is beautiful, it’s a fun course and I landed a good run as well as all my 5s,” said Jamie.

In the halfpipe competition, Ryo Aono (JPN) and Queralt Castellet (ESP), took the win after some great action under the Friday night lights at the Olympic Park.
Queralt’s winning night was filled with firsts: “I am very excited to win tonight as this was my first time at the Canadian Open, my first time landing a Frontside 1080 and my first time winning at an Open,” said Queralt, who defeated second-placed Ellery Hollingsworth (USA). “I feel really really good tonight.”
Queralt came out strong from the start with a Frontside 900, Backside 540 Mute, Frontside 540, Backside Air and Frontside 1080. US women dominated the rest of the podium with Gretchen Bleiler (USA) taking second with an impressive run that included a Crippler, Backside 540 Mute, Frontside 720 Tail, Cab 720 Indy and Frontside Tail.
Ryo Aono’s first-placed run, meanwhile, proved that he is a force to be reckoned with after he also took the top podium spot at the New Zealand Open back in August. “I am so very happy right now to have won,” said Ryo. “I have been to Calgary before but this is my first Open here. It was great with so many people watching and giving off good vibes.”
