DJ Kentaro shot to fame and worldwide acclaim in September 2002 when he took the DMC World Championships by storm, claiming the winning title with the first perfect score in the competition's history. Here is a live mix from this remarkable ninja.
Renowned for taking his audience through a frenzy of hip-hop, drum & bass, house and electro, the fabled live shows of Japanese DJ Kentaro certainly push the limits of creativity and masterful turntable trickery.
He was picked up by Ninja Tune and released the globally applauded Solid Steel DJ mix album, On The Wheels Of Solid Steel, in 2005, using exclusive tracks from Ninja's back catalogue.
This led to his critically acclaimed debut solo full-length, Enter. Since then, he contributed to Ninja Tune's 20-year anniversary box set, and the phenomenal 'Ninja Tune XX' celebration night at London's Ewer Street Car Park, relived in this recorded set from Red Bull Music Academy Radio.
"More than just a technical DJ, Kentaro is a performer, inciting the crowd into a frenzy while titillating the scratch fetishists. Starting with the Roots and winding up with Pharcyde, Wayne Marshall and Sizzla - with cut and juggle excursions through all the other artists from all over the world, hip-hop, reggae, drumn' bass, house, electro and jungle - he easily slides to victory." - Blast Magazine
