Deja vu. Kaya Turski defeated Keri Herman to earn her second straight women's Winter X Slopestyle gold medal on Thursday. Earning a bronze medal wasGrete Eliassen. For all three athletes, it was the same podium finish as 2010.
'I don't even know how to describe how I feel' – Kaya Turski
For Turski, this was her first performance since having ACL surgery last April and as expected she was overjoyed with her performance, which saw her post a 93.66 on her first run, the highest score of the day. “I don't even know how to describe how I feel; I'm ecstatic, I'm relieved, I'm just over the moon right now.” Turski said.
For Eliassen her best run had the judges in awe with a corked 7, a 360 nose grab, and a 900 on the final jump of her second run earning her a 93.00 and third place finish. "I'm usually in the backcountry skiing, so coming to this is just bonus," Eliassen said. "But of course I want to do well."
Only .66 points was the difference between a gold and bronze medal and Turski enjoyed the tight competition: “The girls put on a great show and definitely stepped it up. Props to Keri and Grete and everybody else; it was a tough competition.”
