J-Star is a remixer and DJ from UK, who has been releasing 7" vinyl worldwide since 2003. Since then he has often struck gold with his blends of reggae instrumentals and hip-hop accapellas. Enjoy a Trainwreck Mix by this hero of the underground.

Having found their way into the bags and sets of every DJ worth their salt including Grandmaster Flash, Norman Jay, Francois K and the late, great John Peel, the remixes of J-Star have been causing a stir in clubs worldwide. As well as these cheeky bootlegs he has been kept busy remixing tunes for Ms Dynamite, DJ Vadim, Ursula 1000, Mark Ronson, Teedra Moses and Ari Up. One listen to these dancefloor gems gives you an exact idea of the verve and style of the man called J-Star.

A recent back catalogue of work was reviewed at his site and includes this line about a remix: “The collection also includes No Diggedy – basically Black Street’s No Diggity astride a reggae rhythm – J Star’s four-year-old grenade that really blew up the reggae/hip-hop mash-up sound in a big way.”

J-Star’s style of remixing blurs the line between remix, original production, and mash-up to an extent where it becomes virtually unimportant what the correct term of description might be. Respected US underground music reviewer Kid Kameleon wrote about them: “These tracks use elements of more than one existing song that play off each other in interesting ways, but then add a whole slew of new elements of original production as well. Whatever they are, they’re great and well worth checking out. The only place I can send you is Piccadilly Records where you can do a search for JStar.”
