Seventeen-year-old American surfer Kolohe Andino lived up to his billing as Fantastic Noodles Kangaroo Island Pro favourite, winning the final in South Australia to take his third straight ASP 6-star event victory.
Andino has strong ambitions to enter the full ASP World Title Series next year, and he remains bang on course with victory in Vivonne Bay, having also won his two previous 6-star outings in the SuperSurf Internacional in São Paulo and Brazil Open in Rio.
'Hopefully I can make the ASP World Title Series for next year now. I’m just competitive and want to win' – Kolohe Andino
Having overcome the impressive Australian Mitch Crews in the Kangaroo Island Pro semis, Andino went all out to impress the judges in the final, using almost every wave to his advantage in a display that overshadowed fellow finalist Jay Quinn, the Kiwi surfer admitting afterwards that “there wasn’t a lot more he could do”.

“It feels kind of surreal right now,” Andino commented after a giant cheque (hastily amended from $20,000 to $30,000 prize money) and a unique noodle pot-meal-based trophy had been presented.
“Hopefully I can make the ASP World Title Series for next year now. I’m just competitive and want to win,” he added. “I knew there was a lot of opportunity for me to do well here and I’m happy it went my way.”
