Two years ago, Marko Grilc won the Air & Style in Innsbruck, Austria. This weekend, he'll be doing his best to defend the title. The Slovenian talks to us about his film "Grilomentary" and problems with his luggage...
Yesterday we saw the premiere of your snowboard movie "Grilomentary" in Innsbruck. It was a very nice start of the Air & Style weekend...
"Yeah, it was amazing, especially because the whole Air & Style crew was there. It’s pretty cool if you present your film in front of your buddies. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to visit the after-show party – today we had a training session and so I had to leave earlier."
For the movie, you had a camera crew accompanying you for a whole year. How was that?
"It was quite funny. In the beginning, the feeling was a little bit strange, because I hadn’t known this situation before – I also had no experience of acting, which is part of the documentary. But over the time I got used to it and had a lot of fun. What I like most is people's feedback, they are stoked and seem to like the film."
What is your favourite sequence of the film?
"Actually I don´t have one. There are a few scenes, in which I joke around with my friends. The central theme of the film is definitely a sense of humour."
Now it´s time to speak about the Air & Style. We heard you had some troubles with your luggage...
"Yes. One more time it was lost in the vest of an airport. Fortunately I got it back yesterday."
Last year you won the event. How do you deal with the pressure to defend the title?
"It´s not really pressure. Of course the attention of the people is bigger. But in the end I’m doing the stuff, which I like most – and that’s snowboarding. So I can deal very well with the whole situation."
Who will be your biggest opponent?
"The young guns. Look at the podium of the X Games, nobody was older than 18, and I´m already 27 years old. But I will do my best to compete with the kids."
What are your goals for the rest of the season?
"Currently I’m 27th in the TTR ranking. And, of course, I want to fight back into the top ten, that should be possible. Let´s wait and see how the situation will look like after the two Air & Style contests."
