With his fresh album, Wax Da Beach, out as of today, chill-out champion Nightmares On Wax is once again synonymous with swaying palm leaves, sweet breezes and relaxed minds.

Nightmares on Wax is the alter-ego of DJ, Sample Enthusiast and Producer George Evelyn. Born in 1970 and growing up in Leeds, George was once known as DJ EASE (Experimental Sample Expert), and started Nightmares on Wax as a duo with Kevin Harper who he met when joining a local breakdance crew.

Together they released their first album in 1991, a techno-edged record entitled A Word Of Science: The First And Final Chapter. It was in 1995 that Harper had left to pursue a career in DJ-ing, reducing the band to a solo project which became enormously successful with the release of the legendary Smoker's Delight on Warp records (attention, earworm alert!):

Heavily influenced by instrumental hip hop, Nightmares on Wax was always a soulful, sample based affair but more recently began to involve more guest musicians and vocalists as George developed the live incarnation of Nightmares on Wax.

In 2005, Evelyn started his own label Wax On Records, about which he says: “The basic idea behind Wax On: to deliver quality music with that certain ‘soul factor’ and, for that purpose, to create a network of unknown, or known artists, djs, singers/MCs, producers and musicians alike. In the strong belief that when you have creative people all pulling in the same direction, something special is gonna happen.”

Yesterday night, Gerorge’s new compilation Wax Da Beach was presented in Ibiza with the helping hands of Massive Attack’s DJ Daddy G.

Here's a heavy dose of the tunes that brings the right nightmares to the wax man, handpicked from the well-selected audio pharmacy of Red Bull Music Academy Radio:
