Red Bull Los Andes is an Enduro competition in the palm-tree-saturated playground of Hacienda Rio Bamba in Valle del Cauca, Colombia. Here is a photo review of Cyril Despres, Homer Diaz and other Enduro aces getting dirty.
Renowned international Enduristas such as three-times Dakar Rally champion Cyril Despres, from France, Mexican offroad specialist Homer Diaz and trial talent Diego Ordoñez from Guatemala ploughed through the Colombian countryside, challenged by various obstacles and showing why they are considered the best.
More than 3,000 spectators gathered at the circuit with a length of 37.5 kilometres to watch the 254 competitors fight mud, sand, water, fruit trees and tight spots, while facing the three special tests that proved the technical skills of each competitor.
Kevin Benavides was crowned champion of the test, followed by Cyril Despres, in second, and Colombian Juan Reyes, currently one of the best enduro riders in the country, in a very honourable third place.
The weather became a factor because of the unprecedented heavy rain that fell over southern Quindío during the days before competition resulting in muddy roads that put some spice into the game.
“It's an interesting course with three routes in one place, and the muddy tracks challenged us to be more tactical. Here you have to ride smart,” said Cyril, who was very grateful for the hospitality of the Colombian motor sports fans.
Red Bull Los Andes in Colombia was supported by the Colombian Federation of Motorcycling.
