Sexy, punky, bluesy: Transatlantic garage rock duo The Kills get intimate in this fireside chat on Red Bull Music Academy Radio...

The Kills are Florida-born singer/guitarist VV (aka Alison Mosshart, aka Jack White's sidekick in The Dead Weather) and London-based guitarist/vocalist Hotel (aka Jamie Hince, aka the one who recently married British national treasure Kate Moss).

Mosshart and Hince met after the demise of their previous bands (Discount and Scarfo, respectively) and bonded over such shadowy artists such as The Velvet Underground, Captain Beefheart, Suicide and Patti Smith. Out of their very earliest sessions came lean, sexy, bluesy and groovily minimal punk songs encompassing film, fashion and the dark art of rock 'n' roll.

The duo's debut EP, Black Rooster, came out in 2002 on Domino Records and it was followed a year later by their first album, Keep On Your Mean Side. It was a glowering yet seductive mix of sparse (no drummer, just a drum machine) and intense garage punk.

Their dark and hypnotic way with a tune remains. But where a lot of bands choose dignified refinement as they grow older, The Kills just get more feverish with each release, the most recent being this year's Blood Pressures.

Theirs is the claustrophobic, introverted sound of two artists who are still very much obsessed with music. In this Fireside Chat on Red Bull Music Academy Radio they tell us what drives their ever deepening obsession with rock 'n' roll.
