French football legend Thierry Henry has seven goals in his first 11 Major League Soccer (MLS) games of the season for New York Red Bulls, and next comes an emotional game with former club Arsenal in the Emirates Cup in London on July 31.
Has MLS surprised you?
Yes – how competitive it is. The players have a really positive attitude towards the game.
Do you miss living in the UK?
Not too much. New York and London are quite similar.
What about scoring v Arsenal?
It’s not about me scoring, it’s a friendly tournament that I and the rest of the team are very much looking forward to. Everyone knows how much I still love Arsenal, and of course I’m looking forward to seeing some of my old friends.
You have a time machine: what do you tell yourself when it all started in 1994?
Maybe something like, “Enjoy the ride, it will be a good one!”
And what should young Thierry tell his 2011 counterpart?
“Wow! I have a lot to do!”
How can the RBNY win the MLS?
Win more games than anyone else! And work hard and have a bit of luck along the way.
