Taking a break from competing in Rallye Deutschland, Red Bull’s Super 2000 World Rally Championship co-driver Kathi Wüstenhagen tells us who she’d invite to her dream dinner party.
It’s an eclectic mix, but Kathi has never been one to follow the herd. She normally sits alongside Hermann Gassner in a 300bhp Skoda Fabia rally car, but these are the people she’d like to be sitting next to in a party frock…
Rohrl with it
Germany’s most famous rally driver is former World Champion Walter Rohrl, who had laser eyes that could penetrate fog, allied with balls of steel. Nowadays he’s a global ambassador for Porsche, making a speciality out of scaring people witless over the old Nürburgring. “I know Walter would have some great stories and some really good career advice,” says Kathi.
Forrest Chump?
Another essential invitation would be Tom Hanks. According to Kathi, the Forrest Gump star’s best role was in The Green Mile, her favourite film. “I think he’s just the most amazing actor: I’d like to ask him how similar any of the roles he plays are to his real character, and how he manages to get under the skin of the people he plays so perfectly,” she adds.
Granny knows best
Kathi’s next guest is the most important – her grandmother Lise. “She died two years ago and I really miss her,” says Kathi. “I’d love to have her back and see if she is happy with what I’m doing and where my life is going. She would be really good fun too, and I think she would get on well with Walter and Tom…”
A right Herbert
The final guest is Herbert Arthur Wiglev Clamor Groenemeyer, one of Germany’s most popular musicians, capable of filling entire stadiums in Berlin. He started off as an actor, starring in the classic German movie Das Boot, before going on to record 20 albums. So now you know.
Forza Italia…
The menu, of course, is an important consideration. Kathi loves Italian food, so she’s selected beef carpaccio, followed by grilled salmon, followed by panna cotta. And let’s not forget a decent bottle of Italian white to wash it all down too…
