Kicking off in thick jungle in the upper reaches of northern Argentina and against the backdrop of the stunning Iguazu Falls, the six-stage Desafio Litoral will feature 104 competitors on bike, cars and quads. The first edition of the Dakar Series competition to be held in South America links Argentina and Paraguay in a six-day contest of more than 1,600 kilometres.

Although there are no sand dunes, navigation through hardwood forests of Argentina's Mesopotamia and southern Paraguay, as well as expert driving on clay and slippery soil, will be crucial.

Among those in action in the bike section are Cyril Despres, Chaleco Lopez, Jakub Przyigonski and Taddy Blazusiak.

The Desafio Litoral will reward the best amateur drivers in the Auto, Motorbike and Quadricycles categories, with free passes for the 2013 Dakar edition.

There will be a separate qualification, reserved exclusively for drivers to participate in the Dakar Challenge, which is only open to those who have never participated in a Dakar Rally, or finished in the top 10 of a Rally Cross Country round before.
