Now in their fourth season, the Extreme 40s and their adrenaline-fuelled international Series have given sailing a healthy dust-off. Bringing the action to the public, putting guests at the heart of the battle and dramatically increasing the pace on the water. The last round of the competition, the UK round was won by the youngest skipper on the circuit, Paul Campbell-James and his crew on board The Wave, Muscat, securing their first ever regatta win – and first major event win for an Omani sailor, Khamis Al Anbouri, this year fully integrated in to the race crew.
Next up the crews head to Kiel Yacht Club for the German round of the tour. Located on the Southwestern shore of the Baltic Sea, Kiel is today the country's undisputed sailing capital. Founded by Adolf IV, Count of Schauenburg and Holstein, the city instantly recognised its favourable position by the sea. Kiel's sailing tradition is alive and kicking more than ever, notably with the annual Kiel Week attracting more than 1000 boats, and during last year's Extreme Sailing Series event more than 80,000 people watched the racing! In June 2002, 500,000 visitors prepared a grand welcome for the Volvo Ocean Racers on the final leg of their race. Kiel was two times the host city of the Olympic sailing games. And the Sailing Camp 24 sieben for young people is unique nationwide.
