Red Bull Flugtag challenges teams of everyday people to build homemade, human-powered flying machines and pilot them off a 30-foot high deck in hopes of achieving flight! Flugtag may mean "flying day" in German, but all these crafts ultimately splash into the waters below. They are judged not only on their flight's distance, but creativity and showmanship as well. The first Red Bull Flugtag took place in Vienna, Austria, in 1991. Since then, more than 35 Flugtags have been held around the world -- from Ireland to San Francisco -- attracting up to 300,000 spectators. The record for the farthest flight-to-date currently stands at 195 feet set in 2000 at Flugtag Austria. Follow the madness, or if you don't mind getting wet, then join in for Red Bull Flugtag's 2010 events.
If you’re an adrenalin junkie, flying enthusiast or simply love a bit of DIY airborne fun, then you may just be crazy enough to enter Red Bull Flugtag. This hilarious man-made aircraft flying competition is back in Australia at Mrs Macquaries Point in Sydney on Sunday, 7th November 2010. The 2010 Red Bull Flugtag event will be the second of its kind in Australia following the hugely successful 2008 event which saw ten of thousands of spectators cheer on over 30 man-made flying machines as they flew into spectacular Sydney Harbour.
