The Goodwood Festival of Speed is the largest motoring garden party in the world – an unparalleled summer event that combines aspects of the world of motorsport unavailable anywhere else. Being dubbed as 'motorsport heaven' the festival is the largest car culture event in the world. Celebrating all things automotive from current Formula 1 racers and 200mph supercars, to steam-powered carriages of the 19th Century, and from 3000bhp top fuel dragsters to classic rally cars, no racing stone is left unturned in this multi-sensory celebration of speed. Every vehicle included has been specially and painstakingly selected to reflect the theme of the year, which for 2010 has been named as 'Viva Veloce!' - The Passion for Speed! All competing vehicles are in their original condition. The theme was chosen to celebrate Italy’s all-consuming fascination with motor racing, and its global influence on the sport.
If you thought what was on display was impressive, wait until you check out the guest list for the weekend; names like Moss and Surtees, Button and Hamilton, Stewart and Andretti, Solberg and Fogarty. Where else would you be able to meet and chat to these motoring heroes and legends? The Times have even gone as far as labelling it as 'the greatest show on earth'.
