Red Bull rider Tony Cairoli has very fond memories of the Grand Prix of Germany at Teutschenthal, just two years ago Cairoli made history by becoming the most successful Italian motocrosser of all time, when he notched up his 28th career victory. The Sicilian rode to 2nd and 1st positions with the YZ450F for his third win of a debut MX1 season.
More than 35,000 fans packed out the fast and bumpy Talkessel course to revel in this event, and they'll also be delighted to hear that the circuit has signed an agreement to host the German round for the next six years as well as the 2013 Motocross of Nations. The track has played host to the Grand Prix since the 1960s and is a long-standing stop on the GP tour. In the past it was renowned for being fast with frequent passing, but this has diminished over the years with the result that the track has become technical and off-cambered with a little sand in some areas. The lack of passing has been attributed by some, to the fact that it's such an old track. It days gone by it would most probably have been wide enough but the emergence of new bulkier machines have made space a sadly lacking commodity.
