About: With a seating capacity of almost 145,000, Talladega is the largest superspeedway in NASCAR. Built on land ideally suited to soybean farming, with its only neighbours being a few deserted airfield runways, this monster of Sprint Cup entertainment could be forgiven for feeling out of place. Constructed in the 1960s by Bill France, it was born out of this one man's dream to create a track that was longer and faster than Daytona. Nicknamed 'The Big One', Talladega Superspeedway is the longest NASCAR race track with a length of 2.66 miles (4.28 km) and also holds the record for the fastest recorded time set by a NASCAR stock car in a closed oval course, with the record of 216.309 mph set by Rusty Wallace on June 9, 2004.

Originally known as "The Chase for the Championship" during its creation, and then "The Chase for the Nextel Cup" (from 2004 to 2007) it is the championship system used in NASCAR's top division, the Sprint Cup Series. The Chase was first announced on January 21, 2004, and first used during the 2004 Nextel Cup season. The format used from 2004 to 2006 was modified slightly for the 2007 season. The 10-race Chase pits the 12 drivers with the highest points from the Sprint Cup season against each other. The driver with the most points after the final 10 races is declared the champion.
