Despite being advertised as another '500', The Samsung Mobile 500 is in actual fact 501 miles long. This is due to the TMS track being 1.5 miles long. Texas Motor Speedway is known around the country for its loyal fans, attracted in no small part due to the variety on display at what is commonly referred to as 'The Great American Speedway!' In the first 10 races at the venue, there were no fewer than 10 different winners. The longest streak for any NASCAR track, until it was broken by Jeff Burton in 2007 when he grabbed his second win. Denny Hamlin won his first Texas encounter last year and will relish the opportunity to defend his crown this time out. For the first time in 2011, the race was a Saturday night event, a switch from its usual slot on the Sunday afternoon. For the Chase event it will make the switch back again to the usual time. Originally known as "The Chase for the Championship" during its creation, and then "The Chase for the Nextel Cup" (from 2004 to 2007) it is the championship system used in NASCAR's top division, the Sprint Cup Series. The Chase was first announced on January 21, 2004, and first used during the 2004 Nextel Cup season. The format used from 2004 to 2006 was modified slightly for the 2007 season. The 10-race Chase pits the 12 drivers with the highest points from the Sprint Cup season against each other. The driver with the most points after the final 10 races is declared the champion.
