Red Bull Linecatcher is back on the slopes of Vars, La Forat Blanche on the 15th to 22nd January 2011.
This will be the third edition of what has fast became one of the biggest events in the freeskiing world. The finest skiers on Earth have once again answered the call to defy the laws of physics in a bid to excel in the discipline of freestyle backcountry skiing.
The concept is the standard in the world of freeskiing: a combination of natural contours and shapes in the mountainside to enable skiers to express the full extent of their talent. Building on the success of the 2010 edition, the competition will be held again on the Eyssina bars, a site that combines exceptional cliffs and steep slopes, allowing skiers to vary their routes and diversify their style. The course then runs north and rises to 3000m above sea level, this face also has a perfect location to enjoy excellent snow conditions. Conceptualized by the most American of French riders, Julien Regnier Lafforgue, the test will be taken to fifteen of the best backcountry freestylers in the world. These skiers, from Australia, North America and the Alps, will be judged on the best of three runs by three specialist judges of the discipline: Nico Zacek (ALL), Camille Jaccoux (FRA) and Woody Bouma (AUS). Like last year, a qualifying event will be held to allow riders from across Europe to seize their opportunity to compete in the showpiece event. Only the leading two competitors in the qualifier will progress and get the chance to rub shoulders with the world's elite.
