- About
- Once a closed road circuit, this truly historic venue evolved into a permanent track. A number of changes has also seen it reduce in size, while retaining some of its early character so that it remains flat, twisty and always exciting. It was here last year that MotoGP fans were treated to some of the most entertaining racing of the year by the Rookies. When you take into account the nature of the competitors, this event has 'recipe for disaster' written all over it. Thirty or so hyperactive teenagers, at breakneck speeds, with no fear of death but a thirst for glory all going head-to-head on identical machines. Fortunately these are not your average teenagers, and the racing skills they posses already are superb. One of Assen's finest moments of the year saw the Red Bull Rookies head into the final GT chicane eight abreast, none of them with even the slightest intention of giving ground. Sadly that moment will have been missed by many due to poor television coverage, an issue that has been rectified this year.
