Red Bull Soapbox Race is a national event open to all. Combining creativity, entertainment and speed, the race brings together 50 amateur drivers who engage in the design of dream machines that defy the clock without motor or pedal. Powered solely by gravity and the imagination of their constructors, these extravagant, home-made machines and their reckless drivers hurtle downhill at breakneck speeds, all in the name of glory.

In 1999, the first Red Bull Soapbox Race took place in Belgium and its success was followed by further races in around 25 countries across the globe. This year, for the very first time the French are getting in on the action. The event, which will take place in Lyon, on the slopes of the Vaise district, is the fastest and most inventive race that you're ever likely to see.
