- About
- The Taurus World Stunt Awards are an accolade to the daredevils that risk their lives daily to bring us big-screen excitement, the movie industry's best stunt professionals. Each year the members of the Taurus World Stunt Academy, all members of the stunt industry themselves, vote for and select the brightest stars of the year for extraordinary performances in feature films. Launched in January 2001, the Academy has a worldwide membership of 1,500 and is strongly supported by the stunt community. In order to join, professionals must belong to a recognised stunt organisation or meet a 'Body of Work' requirement that is determined by the Academy's Blue Ribbon Committee. All members are listed on the official Taurus World Stunt Awards website, are able to cast a vote, and if selected, receive a Taurus Award. Honours are awarded across nine separate categories; Best Fight, Best Fire Stunt, Best High Work, Best Work with a Vehicle, Best Overall Stunt by a Stunt Woman, Hardest Hit, Best Specialty Stunt, Best Stunt Coordination and/or 2nd Unit Direction and Best Action in a Foreign Film. The lucky winners each take away a coveted Taurus statuette, an 80cm tall, 12kilo, bronze bull, which represents the strength, ability, versatility and determination that this elite group of people exhibit in their everyday lives. In Greek mythology the bull was a favoured shape of Zeus while on earthly escapades. Legend states that Zeus so revered the bull that he flung it into the heavens so that for all of time it could be immortalised by the stars.
