Despite his famous name, Carlos Sainz Jnr has had his eyes fixed on a career in circuit racing since an early age.
The Spaniard began in karts and won the Asia-Pacific KF3 title in 2008, simultaneously he was runner-up in the Spanish Championship. For 2009 he was runner-up in the European KF3 Championship and a winner at the prestigious Junior Monaco Kart Cup.
2010 saw Carlos step up to single-seaters, competing for EuroInternational in Formula BMW Europe. He was fourth in the championship and phenomenal at Silverstone where he did the hat-trick of victory, fastest lap and pole position. He also made four other visits to the podium in a very consistent rookie season. Carlos also competed in Formula BMW Pacific. While ineligable for points in the Asian series he won three of the nine rounds in which he competed, include the final round on the Gaia Circuit in Macau. Carlos Sainz Jnr was marked down as a driver to watch.
2011 saw Carlos move up to Formula Renault 2.0, competing in both the Eurocup and Northern European Cup. Racing for the Koiranen bros. team, Carlos was Champion in NEC, winning half of the 20 races in the season. He also took eight pole positions and 12 fastest laps. In the Eurocup he placed second with four poles, five fastest laps, two victories and eight other podiums. For 2012 Carlos has moved up again, to British F3 with the prestigious Carlin team who have won the previous four titles, three of which have been with Red Bull Junior Team members at the wheel.
