About Mario
Mario Gomez is hot property in German soccer. His €30m transfer from VfB Stuttgart to Bayern Munich in May 2009 set a new Bundesliga record and saw him team up with international strike partner Miroslav Klose.
The high scorer reached 87 goals in 156 appearances for Stuttgart, winning the league in 2007 and being named German footballer of the year in the same season. In 2008-2009 the player scored 24 league goals in 32 appearances for Stuttgart, helping them to a third place finish, with Bayern finishing second.
Mario has dual nationality (having a German mother and Spanish father) but made his German national debut in a 3-1 victory over Switzerland in 2007, scoring the second goal. The prolific striker went on to score 10 goals in his first 25 appearances and featured in Germany’s Euro 2008 campaign, where they lost in the final to Spain.
Making his debut with Bayern Munich in 2009, Mario was part of the championship-winning side that season and continues to be a star player. In 2011, he scored his 100th Bundesliga goal with a hat-trick in the epic 1-8 win over FC St Pauli. It is his fifth hat-trick so far in the 2010-11 season.
