David Lampkin was born into a family steeped in motorbike tradition – his father, Martin, was the first trials world champion in 1975. He had every chance of making it in the sport then, but even his father would not have predicted he would dominate the sport in the manner he did. Lampkin’s first major victory came at the European championships in 1993 and he has since accumulated a trophy cabinet few sportsmen in the world will be able to match. In 2003, Lampkin won his 12th individual world trials title – with seven coming outdoors and five indoors. He is more than just a trials specialist, however, and has competed in some of the world’s toughest Enduro events, including the Red Bull Hare Scramble and Red Bull Romaniacs. Lampkin cites his father as his greatest influence and, when his own career ends, plans to run a trial team to help young riders achieve the same success he has.
