About Gabor

Born on August 27, 1982 in Budapest, Gabor Kucsera tried several sports at a young age; after swimming and football he found his true calling in kayaking. He started the sport in 1990 at Építõk Sports Club, later joining BSE and MTK, winning numerous titles in the youth and junior categories.

He achieved his first successes in the adult category with Budapest Honvéd, in the 2004 European Championships in Poznan, where he won a gold medal. The same year he almost qualified for the Olympic Games, but one silver medal was not enough in the ever-strong Hungarian field. Disappointment made him double his efforts, the results of which came as soon as next year.

In 2005 all the hard work and perseverance led to the long-awaited success, when Gábor became the world champion in Zagreb! He joined his current club, Kõbánya SC, in 2007.

Following his fourth place at the Beijing Olympic Games, Gábor prepared for the 2009 season with renewed efforts. He came second in K2-500 metres in the Dartmouth World Championships in Canada.
