Having been born in the tiny village of Geldendorp, it was only a matter of time before the young Dutchman struck gold.

The young motocross rider won his first national title in 2002 when he won the Dutch amateur 65cc championship.

After another 65cc success the following year, Herlings moved through the classes picking up world and European titles on his way. In 2009 Herlings stepped up to the MX2 class where he came second in the European Championship and third in the Dutch Open Championship.

From 2010 he moved to the MX2 world championship with the Red Bull KTM Factory team and finished runner-up in the championship in 2011.
