About Marc
The son of an Olympic silver medalist, Marc was always destined for greatness and has more than lived up to the weight of expectation.
He broke into the Red Bull Salzburg first team in 2004/05 and by the end of the following season had become a cult hero with 11 goals in the final 10 games.
Three hugely successful seasons were to follow – including his first Austrian Bundesliga title in 2006/07 – but it was in 2008/09 when the 6ft 6in (1.98m) striker was to truly make his name.
On November 16 Marc broke the club’s all-time season scoring record with 25 goals in less than half a campaign. He then surpassed the Austrian record with a massive 39 goals in 34 games as the club claimed a second Bundesliga title in three years.
That form attracted attention from a number of Europe’s top clubs, but in January 2009 the Austrian international opted to stay loyal to his side by signing a four-and-a-half-year deal.
