About Thomas

Athlete Thomas Morgenstern

Austrian ski jumping Olympic hero Thomas Morgenstern modestly claims that his astonishing feats at the Games are simply down to the fact that he was “just in good shape”.

Thomas, also a junior world champion in 2003 and 2004, broke onto the world cup circuit at the age of 16. He secured his first world cup victory at the same age in Liberec and his team won four gold medals in the Nordic World Ski Championships. He dominated the beginning of the 2007/08 championship, winning the first six competitions (an all-time record). He has recorded 14 world cup victories and has become one of the world's top ski jumpers.

Heading into the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics with a fierce determination, he added to his two earlier gold medals with an Austrian team gold with Gregor Schlierenzauer, Wolfgang Loitzl and Andreas Kofler, who racked up an extraordinary 1107.9-point score for the top step of the medal rostrum.

"I feel so fantastic. It is a dream. And now three, three gold medals," he said afterwards. "I really can't believe this. We have all done it together, such great friends, such a great team."
