Red Bull Music Academy Qatar with Ewan Pearson

Red Bull Music Academy,a travelling series of music workshops and festivals, held a special event at the W Hotel in Doha with renowned musician and global DJing sensation Ewan Pearson.

Pearson, a Red Bull Music Academylecturer and acclaimed music industry professional, informed local musicians, DJs and producers how to apply for this year’s Academy, to be held in New York in September and October. He then conducted an interactive workshop, where he worked closely with the local talent on honing and refining their musical skills.

The workshop waswell attended, with 30 hopefuls gathered to learn from the music veteran. This wasfollowed by an electrifying set performed by the world-famous DJ, offering the crowds a chance to experience first-hand what it takes to succeed in the music business and get audiences on their feet.

Although originally only open to DJs, the Red Bull Music Academy has come far in the 14 years since its inception, becoming one of the world’s top annual international music events. Up and coming musicians of all genres, as well as DJs, singers, producers and arrangers are offered the opportunity to learn from some of the world’s leading music luminaries in a series of workshops held in a different city each year.

This year’s Academy is set to be another epic learning experience for the selected musicians, and with online applications having started in February, competition for entry is bound to be fierce. Offering tips and tricks into how to improve their music and information on how to apply to the academy was a unique, exciting and extremely beneficial workshop for all involved in the Doha event.

The Academy is designed for all musicians and musical professionals and offers a platform for them to shape the future to be involved in the on-going evolution of music in all its forms.

About Ewan Pearson

Ewan Pearson has been making records since 1995. He has recorded as Maas for Soma, releasing six singles and an album by the name of ʻLatitudeʼ, His production credits include Delphic’s ‘Acolyte’, Tracey Thorn’s solo albums ‘Out Of The Woods’ and ‘Love And Its Opposite’, The Rapture’s ‘Pieces of the People We Love’ and M83’s ‘Saturdays=Youth’.

A published academic and lecturer from the age of 27 (‘Discographies: dance music, culture and the politics of sound’ (Routledge, 1999) with Jeremy Gilbert), Ewan is a frequent speaker at festivals and conferences around Europe, he writes a column for Germany’s ‘Groove’ magazine and his ‘Enthusiasm’ blogs send readers hot-footed to record stores in their droves. As a DJ Ewan has been responsible for three acclaimed mix CDs – SciFiHiFi Vol.1 for Soma, fabric 35 and ‘We Are Proud Of Our Choices’ for Kompakt.

A regular at clubs from We Love Space to Panoramabar and a resident at Robert Johnson and The Loft, his sets – like the rest of his career – defy easy categorisation, marrying the independent and the underground with a pop sensibility that’s all his own.
